What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is an innovative facial filler that can help Westchester patients look and feel more confident and youthful. It is known as a “biostimulator” that triggers the body to produce its own collagen, an indispensable protein used to build a strong, healthy skin structure. Sculptra is made up of tiny particles of “poly-L-lactic acid” that signal the body to reverse the aging process. It is injected under the surface of the skin to decrease the appearance of volume loss, facial lines, wrinkles, or folds.

What Are the Advantages of Sculptra?

  • Reverses age-related volume loss
  • Corrects the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and creases
  • Stimulates the body to replenish its collagen reserves
  • Combats thinning skin
  • Can used as a component of a liquid facelift, or chin augmentation treatment
  • Natural-looking results
  • Minimal downtime
  • No scarring or discomfort
  • Does not require allergy testing

What Can I Expect From My Sculptra Treatment?

Sculptra treatments are performed in our state-of-the-art, boutique office setting. Most patients will undergo 1-3 Sculptra sessions spaced four weeks apart to achieve the best possible results.  Dr. Anaïs Carniciu injects Sculptra with lidocaine (a numbing medicine) to ensure your comfort and relaxation throughout your appointment. Multiple small injections using an ultra-fine needle and grid pattern are used to correct the wrinkles.

What Happens After My Sculptra Injections?

While immediate treatment benefits are initially seen, these diminish in a few days as swelling resolves. However, once the beads start to be absorbed, new layers of collagen are produced by your body, plumping and revitalizing the skin. The effect is seen at 4-6 weeks and is cumulative with repeated injections. Results continue to improve for up to two years. After 1-2 years, another injection of Sculpta might be needed to maintain and further enhance your cosmetic results.

Side effects of Sculptra may include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising that may last anywhere from a few hours up to two weeks. After treatment, you may use an ice pack on the area to help reduce swelling and bruising. You will also be asked to massage the injected areas at home for best results. It is important to avoid strenuous exercise immediately after your treatment. Other than this, there are no restrictions after a Sculptra session.
