Erasing the Signs of Aging with Brow Lift Surgery

As the body ages, it is natural to develop stubborn horizontal and vertical lines in the forehead as well as concerns like volume loss and sagging skin. A strategic, minimally invasive brow lift performed by our skilled, board-certified oculoplastic surgeon can reverse these signs of aging and restore a more relaxed, youthful countenance.

The doctor and staff are all so welcoming and kind. They are very patient; answering all my questions and addressing all my concerns. They even called me twice while away when I needed to speak to them. The desk staff always greets me when I arrive and handles my phone calls politely. I feel fortunate to have found New York Eye & Face. The doctor is very skillful and knowledgeable. I have recommended them already and will continue to do so.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow or forehead lift is a cosmetic surgical procedure that can reduce lines and wrinkles running across your forehead. Your oculoplastic surgeon can also address other issues during your brow lift, including:

  • Wrinkles on the bridge of your nose
  • Frown lines between your eyebrows
  • Sagging brows that cover your upper eyelids

Dr. Anaïs Carniciu performs brow lift surgery using a minimally invasive endoscopic technique.

What Is An Endoscopic Brow Lift?

An endoscope is a flexible tube along which your doctor can pass specialized surgical instruments. Your surgeon makes incisions well hidden within the hairline to provide access to the endoscope, which means you experience virtually no scarring. Endoscopic instruments are used to lift your forehead's tissues and brow and secure them in a higher, more youthful position. A hidden fixating device holds the repositioned tissues in place, creating a smooth, elevated forehead and eyebrow shape.

What Does Brow Lift Surgery Involve?

Brow lift surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis using light anesthesia and IV (intravenous) sedatives or general anesthesia. The surgery takes from 60 to 90 minutes to complete, after which your head stays wrapped in a pressure bandage for 24 hours. You can expect some mild bruising and swelling after an endoscopic brow lift that peaks in the first week following surgery. Your doctor will likely advise you to recover at home for at least a week after a brow lift. During the recovery period, you need to avoid strenuous exertion and not wash or color your hair. After a brow lift, you should find you look less tired and feel more refreshed without losing any of your natural beauty.

What is Internal Brow Suspension (Browpexy)?

During browpexy, the outer portion of the eyebrow is lifted in order to create a more well-rested and youthful appearance. While a conventional brow lift elevates the entire eyebrow, a browpexy focuses exclusively on the outer region of the brow. The procedure can help offset the natural effects of gravity and decreased skin elasticity. Browpexy is an ideal complement to upper eyelid blepharoplasty and restores sagging skin around the eyes without any additional incisions.

How is a Browpexy Performed?

The surgery is usually carried out in tandem with other cosmetic procedures such as upper blepharoplasty. Tiny incisions are hidden within the eyelid in order to ensure inconspicuous scarring. The brow tissue is then secured in a more elevated location using deep sutures.

What Will Recovery After Browpexy Entail?

Browpexy is usually a minimally invasive procedure with a short recovery period. However, healing times may vary based on the patient’s overall health, their age, genetics, and other factors. After surgery, it’s important for patients to avoid strenuous exercise for around one week. Walking, shopping, and other light activities are permitted. Mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness may occur in the treated areas at first. These symptoms will peak within 7 days and then begin to slowly diminish. Dr. Carniciu will monitor your recovery and make sure you are recuperating without stress or complications.

The Temporal (Hairline) Brow Lift

The temporal browlift is another technique available at New York Eye and Face. The temporal brow lift technique involves an incision hidden just behind the hairline (the temporal region). Dr. Carniciu will use this incision to laterally lift your brow and achieve a more youthful, refreshed appearance. The hairline brow lift technique can help minimize fluid loss and accelerate the recovery process.
