I have nothing but great things to say about Dr Carniciu. From our first meeting, she made me feel comfortable. She explained the procedure from start to finish and eased all of my concerns. I am very happy with the way I was treated, the level of expertise, the surgery and also the follow-up. Thanks again.

What Are The Benefits of Double Eyelid Surgery?

  • The eyes will appear larger and more prominent
  • It is easier and more effective to apply makeup
  • Increased definition in the eyelids
  • Improved facial harmony and balance
  • Reduction in puffiness
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Inconspicuous scarring

What is Asian Double Eyelid Surgery?

Asian double eyelid surgery in Westchester at New York Eye and Face creates a more prominent crease in the upper eyelid, allowing for a brighter, more “awake” facial appearance. With this additional crease, a more visible natural space (an eyelid “platform”) is created, thereby giving the impression of larger, more attractive eyes.

What Will My Surgery Entail?

Asian double eyelid surgery is typically performed in an outpatient (non-hospital) setting under sedation with local anesthesia injected into the treatment areas. Patients are able to go home the same day of the procedure, and the surgery itself takes approximately 45 minutes. A surgical incision is carefully constructed for the individual’s desired appearance at the height of the new eyelid crease. The particular shape of the crease is discussed prior to surgery, and the incisions are designed with the crease outcome in mind. Sutures (“stitches”) are passed to securely hold the eyelid crease in its new position. In certain cases, this procedure can be customized with additional skin and eyelid tissue removal in order to achieve each individual’s unique aesthetic goals. In all cases, meticulous surgical planning ensures the proper closure and function of the eyelids postoperatively.

The Recovery Process

Mild bruising, swelling, and soreness are common after double eyelid surgery; however, these side effects usually peak in the first 7 days postoperatively. Early swelling can often cause the lid crease to appear different from your actual final outcome. Dr. Carniciu recommends resting and healing at home for approximately one week. Thereafter, most patients can comfortably return to work, provided that their occupations are sedentary. It’s important to avoid heavy exertion and makeup use for 3-4 weeks, or as specified by Dr. Carniciu.  Once recovered, patients often remark that their eyes appear more “open” and brighter, while still remaining true to their natural appearance.
