Dr. Anaïs Carniciu, M.D. is a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon who serves as Associate Adjunct Surgeon and member of the teaching faculty at the world-renowned New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai. Dr. Carniciu’s area of expertise focuses exclusively on plastic surgery of the face, with special attention to the delicate tissues surrounding the eyes. Using a natural approach, Dr. Carniciu is passionate about improving her patients’ confidence and quality of life through reconstructive and cosmetic oculoplastic surgery.
Dr. Carniciu completed her undergraduate studies in biology and moral philosophy at Dartmouth College. A native New Yorker, she returned to earn her medical degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Carniciu then completed her residency training in ophthalmic surgery at Case Western Reserve University, where she served as Chief Resident.
Following residency, Dr. Carniciu was one of 25 surgeons selected for a highly prestigious fellowship in oculofacial plastic surgery (“oculoplastics”) sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). She trained in oculoplastics at the University of Michigan and at Consultants in Ophthalmic and Facial Plastic Surgery, one of the nation’s top oculofacial plastic surgery practices. After completion of her 2-year ASOPRS fellowship in Michigan, Dr. Carniciu is honored to return home and care for patients in Westchester, New York.
Dr. Carniciu offers a variety of advanced treatments, including upper and lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), droopy eyelid repair, endoscopic forehead and brow lift, midface lift, and treatment of facial skin cancers. She also offers minimally-invasive rejuvenation procedures such as laser resurfacing, Botox® and dermal fillers. Her approach to plastic surgery is multifaceted, with an artistic eye for elegant and natural enhancements to achieve facial balance.
Outside of the operating suite, Dr. Carniciu is an avid oculoplastic surgery educator and has published numerous textbook chapters, journal articles, and presented her research at national meetings. She serves as a peer-reviewer for multiple leading surgical journals.
Dr. Carniciu currently sits on the Executive Board of the Westchester County Medical Society, where she volunteers her time to advocate for patient safety. She was selected by her physician peers to the position of 9th District Delegate representing Westchester County at the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) House of Delegates.
In her free time, Dr. Carniciu enjoys interior design, Pilates, and spending time with family and friends.
